She roamed down the halls, her steps light but slow. Head held high, she looked only ahead, passing paintings of nobly dressed persons on one side, and large windows showing the dark forest on the other. She turned and opened the doors to a grand ballroom, her draping sleeves fluttering with the movement.
Those within the room greeted her, the Hostess of the Night. With a small smile, she walked through the parted crowd, and greeted her newest guest with naught but a smile.
“Come, my dear.” She held out her hand in invitation. “To death may we dance.”
